Outstanding products, internationally renowned chefs and creativity make the culinary art of this land possible. Michelin star rated restaurants, bar counters brimming with sophisticated pintxos, or the bodegas of the Rioja Alavesa, the land’s greatest wines, are perfect to enjoy the best of Basque cuisine.
During this tour all the members of the family will have the chance to cook 2 easy and tasteful typical recipes of the Bilbao area.
CORN BREAD WITH RED SAUSAGE “TALO CON CHORIZO” Our corn bread “talo” is a traditional kind of “crêpe” stuffed with a fried red sausage. It is made out of corn flour, salt and water. Each participant (kid or adult) will cook his own “talo” wearing a typical fishermen’s neckerchief. All traditions linked to the talo and the fishermen will be explained while cooking.
GILDAS- KIDS MADE IT! Gilda is the name of the most typical “pintxo” (tapa) in the Basque Country. The origin of Gildas will be discovered during this funny experience. Each kid will pierce ingredients with a stick in a creative manner for the International Gilda Contest held on the spot. The winner, according to tradition, will be awarded a “txapela” (Basque black beret) to be taken home as a reminder of the gastronomic adventure.
