History and nature
The Basque Authorities met here in democratic assembly to promise to respect the special laws of Biscay. The Casa de Juntas, where the Basque parliament has convened since 1979, and the Tree of Gernika are a must.
The village is home to an exceptional architectural heritage and a perfect starting point for day trips to Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, an exceptional place formed by wide sandy areas. Bermeo, with its popular Basque architecture reflected in the fishermen’s houses and the port area, full of colour and terraces, is known since ancient times as one of the most important fishing ports of the Cantabrian coastline.
